Seat of the Pants has consistently produced great theater, while also being mindful of our finances. We budget conservatively, apply annually for and successfully receive grants, and benefit from the generosity of individual and corporate donors who give to our Annual Campaign. We’ve been incredibly fortunate - as a small arts organization - to have operated in the black since our inception.

This is, in part, because we prioritize spending on artists and storytelling by keeping our overhead very low; over 92% of what we raise goes directly into paying artists and telling stories. For example:

  • $12 is the cost of a single script for an actor.

  • $50 prints programs for a single performance.

  • $75 provides concessions for a single performance.

  • $120 pays royalties for a single performance.

  • $250 covers marketing materials for a single production.

  • $350 supplies a budget for sound.

  • $600 supplies a budget for props.

  • $700 compensates a non-union actor for their creative work.

  • $800 is the average cost for one of our designers.

  • $1,500 is an average set or costume design budget.

  • $4,000 compensates a union actor for their creative work.

  • $6,000 covers rent for rehearsal and performance spaces.

  • $7,500 provides a stipend for one of our executive leaders.

In our 2026-27 season, we’ll be continuing our rapid growth as a company, producing three process-driven plays in October, December, and April - an American classic, a hilarious holiday offering, and an emotional excursion into the realm of science fiction. We’ll continue our Salon Series, readings of 3 new plays with an opportunity for audiences to dialogue with the playwrights about next steps. We’ll open up a bunch of free actor workshops throughout Northeast Ohio, bringing in master teachers to focus on technique and process apart from the rehearsal hall. And so much more!

To that end, we’re aiming to raise $75,000 between July 15th and October 15th, 2026 - toward our total annual budget of $150,000. And we’re reaching out to our audience members, supporters, and anyone who cares about the arts in Northeast Ohio to help us out. You can donate several ways:

  • Give online at the top of this page through PayPal. (PayPal does take a cut, but this is also the only way to sign up for a recurring monthly donation.)

If you’d like your donation to be in honor of a particular ensemble member and to count toward their fundraising total, just include their name in the memo line of your check or in the notes section of any of the other apps and platforms.
